In 1970, when it became known that the NHL would like to have a team on Long Island in the new Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, businessman Roy Boe, owner of the New Jersey Nets basketball club, decided to try his luck in hockey. With the help of 19 other investors, he raised $ 6 million for an entry fee in the NHL and another $ 4 million for territorial payment to the New York Rangers foundation. The general manager of the team was appointed Bill Torrey. All the big wins of the Islanders are connected with coach El Arbor.

In 1972, New York Islanders performed for the first time in the National Hockey League. It is based in the borough of New York, Brooklyn, New York, USA. 4-fold winner of the Stanley Cup. The New York Rangers are considered the biggest rival of the New York Islanders. Teams have struggled with each other for many years. Islanders defended their victory in the eighties, winning the Stanley Cup four years in a row, 1980, ’81, ’82 and ’83.

December 20, 2017 it was announced that the application of the owners of “New York Islanders” won a tender for the construction of the arena in the Belmont Park area in the city of Elmont, New York. According to plans, the construction of an arena with a capacity of about 18,000 spectators, should begin in 2018 and be completed in 2020.

If you come to New York for a vacation, be sure to go to one of the matches. It does not matter if you are a hockey fan, in any case, you will have a wonderful time. The atmosphere in the stadium is unforgettable!

What places to book?

If you go to a hockey match, it is very important to book comfortable seats, especially since the hockey ground is very small, from a distance it will be little to see. But even so, do not forget that the main thing is the atmosphere! The best places are in section 100, but they are also the most expensive, prices start from $ 80- $ 180 per ticket. Tickets in the highest part of the arena are much cheaper, but be prepared for that the game will be more difficult to follow. Buy excellent places in section 200, prices from $ 80- $ 150 per ticket, try to avoid a place outside the gate. I recommend not buying tickets for section 300, they are too far from the rink, and therefore the cheapest, from $ 40 – $ 75.
